The New Manager Readiness Checklist
Technically strong people are often considered for promotion because they understand the process, meet targets, solve problems, uphold standards, and are respected for their expertise. However, being excellent at the job does not automatically mean they are ready to lead others.
Before promoting an operator, technician, engineer, team leader, supervisor or shift lead into a people management role, their leadership readiness should also be assessed. The checklist is intended to help identify whether they are ready to step into leadership now, or whether they need further support, development or coaching before making the move.
